Warlis, Bhils and Kunbis captured the Dangs before the eighth century to the tenth century; Naikas and Gamits came here later. All these tribes are part of the population of Dangis in today’s date. It is a contracted blend of many tribes. Even if Dangi has so many tribes, still their cultural development carries the common ethos, through these Dangi tribe personality causes a typical way of feeling, thinking, behaving with mutual sentiments, ideas and beliefs. Warli tribe usually live in a forested area. Warlis live in Vansda taluka, Umbergaon, Dharampur, Dang district all these locations are situated near the border of Maharashtra. As per the Enthoven, Warli tribe is a sub tribe of the Bhil with 3 sub-groups and several Gotras such as Murday, Davar, Nehri. Most of the Davars are located in Gujarat. Kunbi and Warli tribe speaks Gujarati language. The villages, in which this tribe live, are undeveloped or remote that’s why they are unknown from the other tribes that time villages plays the role of a binding force. They live unknown from the other people in the hilly area,and have no connection with the major population, helping them to sustain their typical traditional lifestyle. Patel accede play an important role in managing the social, individual & religious customs. During weddings , Pagri tying is the custom of the Patel. Burning the slashing the cultivation begins during the start of April and May. They do cultivation during the monsoon season. After that to earn money, they migrate from there to search the occupation. They started collecting honey, Mahuwa, gum, Timroo leaves, Doli, Ambla and sell these forest items in the market. For Warlis, nature is very important, more than cultivation or agriculture. They were known as nature’s children. Till now they live independent because of nature. The location where the Warlis are living, geographical situation is appropriate for them. The whole area is hilly, that’s why looking at Falia is possible for them from any other cluster.
In the Mahal village, you will find hundreds of Warli houses; it is located in the Ahwa Taluka. In the village, Worlis have a number of communities. To decorate the home, they use Lipan work; they don’t use drawing or wall paintings. Their major income is from agriculture; they farm Varai, Rice, Khulit, Urad, Brinjals and Oliseeds. Cattle herding and farming are the major occupations of this tribe. In the meal, they usually eat Dal, Nagli Ratlo, Warai sweet, and Urad Dal. The attire of this tribal woman commonly wear saris of Maharashtrian style and Dupatta or Odhani, necklaces kanthi, anklets sakar, plastic or glass bangles, earrings which is called as Jhulkha. Plastic necklaces are a modern ornament for the Warli tribe. Ganthi is their traditional jewellery, it is commonly used by the Bhils & Warlis; it is available in silver color. In the wedding ceremony of Warli, Gamits and Kunbis bride gets the clothes from the groom. One person called Bhagat does wedding ceremony and ritual pujas. Warli tribe believes in god of Nag Dev Tera and Wagh Dev. It is an original animal symbol of Bhil tribe; it is Dangis sacred animal god. Gamits and Warlis worship the Khatranpujan.
