Darjeeling has also witnessed the face of war and lockouts during the Gorkhaland Movement in the 1980s. The members of the Gorkhaland Movement demanded a separate state named Gorkhaland oust from the territories of West Bengal and Kalimpong to be its capital. The forests of Darjeeling has been depleting with great speed because of the demand for expensive woods that grow in these areas and the other purpose being urbanization.
