Located at Leh-Manali highway, Lachalung la Pass is situated in between Sarchu and Pang. It is located at the height of 5,059 meters above the sea level.
History
It had in the ancient times served as a trade route and as a religious center.
Location and Climate
It is located at 16616 feet above the sea level. Very often issues related to breathlessness as well as acclimatization occur at this place. It separates two mountain valleys. They are Tsarap Chu and Tozay. It is also near the Zanskar River and Indus River. The temperature can drop to -20 degree Celsius at the time of winter.
How to Reach
Bike and bicycles are preferred to reach Lachung la pass through the Leh Manali highway. Bike trip is charming since it has excellent roads and better terrain than the others.
Best Time to Visit
April to June is the best time to visit mainly because the place opens up for visitors by Border Road Organisation (BRO). It cannot be passed during winters.
Tourist Attraction
Motorcycle ride is the primary activity that could be done at this high altitude pass
Pang has the world’s tallest transit camp of Army, making it a tourist attraction as well.
Water sports are another attraction. Kayaking could be done at the Tsarap River and Zanskar Gorge. River rafting is also undertaken here.
Zanskar River is another major attraction. Zanskar gorge is the long pass of the river which connects it to Indus River. Rafting trips and trek alongside the banks 0f this stream are everyday things to do with tourists here.
Sightseeing and photography are other exciting things to be done here, with a serene and pleasant environment and spectacular views.

Tented accommodation facilities are available at Pang. There are hotels and homestays in Sarchu. These are the places at which one can stay. There are roadside eating joints also along the route.
