Yamunotri Dham is the first of the Chardham in the Chota Chardham circuit and belongs to the River Goddess ‘Yamuna’ who is enshrined here as a black marble Devi idol. The temple lies in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district at an elevation of 3293 meters above the sea level. On an average, the Yamunotri maximum temperature hovers around 15 degree centigrade-20 degree centigrade while the minimum temperatures usually drop below zero degree on an average. Woolen, warm clothes are a must at Yamunotri almost all through the year.

Summers in Yamunotri
Summers in Yamunotri are cool and pleasant. Summers start by end of April and continue till mid June. The maximum average temperatures during summers may be about 20 degree centigrade. During the day time it is sunny and pleasant but the nights may be pretty cold.
Monsoons in Yamunotri
Monsoons start around end of June and continue till August. During the monsoons, heavy rainfall occurs in the area. This increases the risk of landslides and flash floods.
Winters in Yamunotri
After monsoons, the pre-winter part of the year; i.e. around months September and October, is soothing again. Winters begin around early November and continue till end of March or early April. Winters are severely cold. Temperatures dip down below zero degree and heavy snowfall occurs during this time.
Best Time to Visit
The ideal time to visit Yamunotri Dham is between months April to early June and then again around months September and October. During these months of the year the weather remains the most traveler-friendly. The temple remains open for the visitors from end of April to early November roughly.
